0:00 / 2:40Aurora Labs has secured its first US propulsion sale, receiving a US$42,000 purchase order for three AU4 turbojet engines and associated integration services.
The engines will support an experimental aircraft program being developed by an unnamed US-based aerospace and defence-focused start-up. Aurora will supply the units and assist with integrating them into the customer’s platform.
The order is modest in value and the buyer is neither a specialist defence prime nor a volume customer. Its importance instead lies in establishing Aurora’s first propulsion customer in the US, adding another market to the company’s commercialisation activities in Australia and Europe.
The customer has requested anonymity while establishing its business. Aurora said the people involved are experienced in aerospace, but disclosed no further information about the buyer, aircraft program or delivery schedule.
Integration will be the immediate test
Aurora manufactures its Australian-designed AU4 engines using additive manufacturing. The US customer believes this production approach offers an advantage for its experimental aircraft program, according to the announcement.
The intended application is expected to test the propulsion technology against the program’s performance objectives. Aurora said the resulting work could benefit potential future defence applications for its turbojets.
The two companies also intend to explore other aerospace uses during the supply and integration process. However, any additional business depends on customer requirements, successful integration and a separate commercial agreement. Aurora explicitly said it was not announcing follow-on orders.
Chief Executive Andrew Garth said the company’s immediate priority was delivery and integration.
“Our first US engine sale is a practical step in expanding Aurora’s international customer base. While the initial order is modest in value, it gives us an opportunity to demonstrate our propulsion technology with a US customer and build our presence in a larger aerospace and defence market.”
Broader propulsion commercialisation
The US transaction follows a larger Australian order secured from Sovereign Propulsion Systems. Announced in December 2025, that contract covered 20 AU4 propulsion systems and was valued at A$250,000.
Aurora also signed a teaming agreement with European defence group MBDA in May 2026, providing a potential route to commercial opportunities in Europe. The company said its Australian and European initiatives are well advanced, with multiple opportunities pending, although the announcement did not attach values or commitments to those prospects.
Aurora’s wider business includes 3D metal-printed industrial parts, metal printers and related intellectual property. It is also developing advanced propulsion systems for unmanned aerial systems used in the defence sector.
For shareholders, the latest order provides evidence of international customer interest, but its near-term financial contribution is limited. The next commercial test will be successful delivery and integration, followed by whether the initial relationship develops into additional platform work or separate orders.
