0:00 / 4:05IperionX has secured a second U.S. Army task order to expand domestic titanium manufacturing capacity for defence applications, extending work under its existing US$99 million Small Business Innovation Research Phase III contract.
The new order has a firm-fixed-price base value of US$18.5 million, with US$11.5 million currently funded and obligated. A further US$6.9 million relates to four options that have not yet been exercised or funded.
If all options are exercised, the task order could reach a maximum value of US$25.4 million.
Army Funding Targets Virginia Expansion
The funded work is focused on expanding production capability at IperionX’s Virginia facility across titanium powder, near-net-shape components and finished parts.
Three priority work packages, worth a combined US$11.5 million, are fully funded.
They include US$3.4 million for development of a continuous HSPT furnace, US$1 million for centreless grinding and thread-rolling equipment, and US$7.1 million for industrial-scale continuous HSPT and dehydrogenation furnaces.
A separate US$7.1 million batch-furnace work package has so far received an initial US$100,000 allocation.
The equipment is intended to increase throughput, improve manufacturing consistency and bring more finishing work in-house, reducing IperionX’s reliance on external suppliers.
Planned fastener production includes titanium track pins, bolts and threaded components for U.S. Army ground-combat applications. Inspection and acceptance of production-scale components are expected to take place at Detroit Arsenal.
Funding Remains Tied to Performance
While US$11.5 million has been obligated under the task order, that amount does not represent cash already received or revenue recognised.
Payments remain dependent on performance, customer acceptance, invoicing and applicable accounting requirements.
The performance period runs from August 28, 2026, through August 27, 2030. The U.S. Government also retains the right to terminate the underlying contract at its discretion.
Together, IperionX’s first two task orders have a stated value of approximately US$19.8 million, leaving US$79.2 million of capacity under the broader US$99 million contract ceiling.
Integrating Titanium Production
IperionX’s strategy is centred on combining more stages of titanium manufacturing within a single production system.
Its HAMR technology converts titanium scrap or mineral feedstocks into low-oxygen titanium powder. The company’s HSPT process then consolidates that powder into near-net-shape components designed to have properties comparable with wrought titanium.
Linking continuous powder production with continuous component manufacturing is intended to lower unit costs as volumes increase.
IperionX has identified conversion into finished components as a constraint across its customer programs. The latest equipment investment is aimed at addressing that bottleneck while shortening production schedules and increasing control over quality and cost.
Options Extend Into Aerospace and Refractory Metals
The four unfunded options would broaden the program beyond titanium manufacturing.
They include an aerospace-grade titanium component demonstration, recycling of C103 alloy scrap, niobium reduction and powder spheroidisation, and scaled production of spherical niobium and C103 powders.
C103 is a high-temperature refractory alloy used in space and defence propulsion systems.
All of the option activities remain subject to U.S. Government funding and exercise, as well as technical validation, definitive agreements and customer qualification.
Separately, IperionX has previously disclosed US$59.8 million of obligated reimbursable U.S. Government funding and has received approximately 290 metric tonnes of titanium alloy scrap at no cost.
