Lachlan Star (ASX: LSA) Starts New Waverley Gold Drilling
Lachlan Star has begun drilling beneath Waverley Pit and across regional targets at New Waverley. A second rig is scheduled to join the campaign in November.

0:00 / 2:41Lachlan Star has started reverse-circulation drilling at its New Waverley Gold Project near Norseman, targeting extensions to the shallow, high-grade mineralisation beneath Waverley Pit and several previously undrilled regional prospects.
The campaign has two objectives: establish the continuity and scale of the existing Waverley discovery, and determine whether the surrounding structural corridor contains additional gold centres. A second drill rig is scheduled to arrive in November, allowing the company to advance both workstreams concurrently.
This is not a fresh assay release. The announcement reports the start of drilling and cites earlier results that underpin the latest program.
Following the high-grade shoots
Drilling beneath Waverley Pit will target mineralisation that remains open down-plunge and at depth. Lachlan Star’s geological interpretation indicates the higher-grade quartz vein shoots have a consistent, gentle north-westerly plunge, providing a framework for positioning follow-up holes.
Previous intersections include 13 metres at 4 grams per tonne gold from 46 metres, including 3 metres at 15.2 grams per tonne, and 7 metres at 6.61 grams per tonne from 46 metres, including 2 metres at 21 grams per tonne.
Another hole returned 6.15 metres at 8.6 grams per tonne from 46.9 metres, including 2.9 metres at 17.7 grams per tonne. Those results indicate higher-grade reefs occur within a broader mineralised shear corridor, but further drilling is required to define their continuity.
Drilling and geological observations currently support mineralisation across about 400 metres of known strike at New Waverley. Historical mining at Waverley Pit reached only around 30 metres below surface, while the nearby Trial Pit extended to approximately six metres.
Testing a broader corridor
The regional component will include maiden drilling of large gold-in-soil anomalies southwest of Waverley Pit. These sit within the same prospective structural corridor, which extends for more than four kilometres beyond the known drilled mineralisation.
Lachlan Star will also test Bird’s Nest, Golly’s X-Link and Hidden Secret. Mapping has identified quartz reefs, shearing and structural positions broadly parallel to the Waverley trend. Rock-chip sampling returned up to 7.78 grams per tonne gold at Hidden Secret and 1.38 grams per tonne at Bird’s Nest, although isolated surface samples do not establish the width or continuity of mineralisation.
New Waverley covers about 40 square kilometres and lies approximately 16 kilometres northeast of Norseman. The package includes two granted mining leases containing the historical Waverley and Trial Pit workings.
The project’s ownership and profit-sharing arrangements are also relevant to its economics. Lachlan Star holds a 90% interest in most New Waverley project tenements, while one exploration licence is wholly owned. The Waverley Pit, Trial Pit and Baker Boys production joint-venture area is subject to a 50:50 net-profit share over near-surface areas extending to 100 metres below the current surface.
