Pioneer Minerals (ASX: PMM) Takes Option Over Argentina Gold-Copper-Silver Project
Pioneer Minerals has taken staged options over the historically drilled San Francisco polymetallic project in Argentina. A planned A$1.8 million raising will fund initial technical work and exploration, subject to shareholder approval.

0:00 / 3:37Pioneer Minerals has secured staged options to acquire the San Francisco Gold-Copper-Silver Project in Argentina, giving the explorer access to an extensively drilled breccia system with broad historical intercepts but no defined Mineral Resource.
The proposed acquisition covers about 3,477 hectares in San Juan Province. If Pioneer completes the four-year option program, it will acquire 100% of the San Francisco and José Mario mining concessions and 81.25% of the adjoining El Tapau permits. The interests will be subject to a 2% net smelter return royalty.
Pioneer has also received commitments for an A$1.8 million capital raising at $0.18 per share, equal to its closing price before the trading halt. The funds are intended to cover initial option payments, technical work, exploration and working capital.
Historical drilling provides the starting point
San Francisco has been tested by 47 historical diamond holes totalling approximately 13,332 metres. One of the standout near-surface results was 109 metres at 4.94 grams per tonne gold, 109 grams per tonne silver and 1.13% copper from 12 metres, including 27 metres at 9.02 grams per tonne gold.
Other historical results included 83 metres at 4.40 grams per tonne gold, 82 grams per tonne silver and 0.43% copper from 25 metres, and 27 metres at 5.50 grams per tonne gold, 97 grams per tonne silver and 3.30% copper from 44 metres.
Deeper drilling returned 72.3 metres at 3.47% copper, 100 grams per tonne silver and 0.71 grams per tonne gold from 397.7 metres. Another hole intersected 17 metres at 4.33% copper, 108 grams per tonne silver and 0.64 grams per tonne gold from 370 metres.
The reported intersections are downhole lengths and their true widths are unknown. Pioneer has not completed verification drilling, and the existing drilling has not yet been demonstrated to support a Mineral Resource estimate under the JORC Code.
Beyond San Francisco, historical work mapped more than 70 breccias and over 130 veins. Only nine breccias and one vein system have documented drilling, with 4,964 metres completed outside the main San Francisco target.
Staged spending limits upfront exposure
Completing all four option stages would require US$3.2 million in vendor payments, at least US$2.45 million of exploration expenditure and seven kilometres of drilling. Pioneer can withdraw before completing a stage without becoming liable for future payments or expenditure not already due.
The A$1.8 million raising comprises A$1 million in unsecured, interest-free convertible loans and an A$800,000 second-tranche placement. Subject to shareholder approval, investors will receive 10 million shares and five million free-attaching options exercisable at $0.25.
The acquisition, placement securities and related facilitation and broker securities require shareholder approval, which Pioneer expects to seek at its annual general meeting in late November 2026.
Following completion, Pioneer plans independent three-dimensional modelling of the historical drilling, geological and geophysical reviews, and new drilling to verify mineralisation and test the system at depth. The work will determine what additional drilling is required before a potential Mineral Resource estimate can be considered.
